Two Children and Father Found Dead in Suspected Cocoa Murder-Suicide
COCOA, Fla. — A Florida community is mourning after two young children and a 37-year-old man were found dead inside a Cocoa home Wednesday, October 7, in what authorities are investigating as a suspected murder-suicide.
The heartbreaking discovery was made at a residence on 100 Sorrento Drive in the Lakeside Palms neighborhood, just south of State Road 520.
Cocoa police were called to the home around noon after the children’s mother reportedly discovered the bodies and contacted 911.
Authorities found two children, both believed to have been younger than 10, and an adult man deceased inside the residence.
The man has been identified as 37-year-old Joseph Kyle Dingwall.
Two Young Lives Cut Short
The deaths of the children have left neighbors and members of the Cocoa community struggling to understand what happened.
The children were described by neighbors as quiet and were occasionally seen playing outside the home.
For a community that had watched the children simply grow up in their neighborhood, their deaths have brought an overwhelming sense of grief.
“They were quiet, you’d see the kids playing outside,” neighbor Ruben Diaz said. “I didn’t know them personally.”
Another neighbor, Marco Garcia, said learning that children were among those found dead made the tragedy especially difficult to comprehend.
“It was sad because of the kids,” Garcia said.
Father Identified as Joseph Kyle Dingwall
Police have identified the deceased man as 37-year-old Joseph Kyle Dingwall, 37.
Investigators believe Dingwall died from what appears to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the children were killed. Authorities are treating the case as a suspected double murder-suicide.
Officials have not yet publicly detailed what may have led to the deaths or what happened inside the residence before police arrived.
The investigation remains active, and authorities are working to establish a complete timeline.
Neighbors Heard Loud Sounds Overnight
Questions surrounding the deaths intensified after a neighbor reported hearing what sounded like gunfire during the early morning hours.
Garcia said he was preparing to go to sleep when he heard two loud sounds sometime after midnight.

“I was getting ready to go to sleep and I heard two hard blasts, hard sounds,” Garcia said.
He reportedly woke his father and checked surveillance footage following the sounds. According to his account, the footage showed a man coming out of the house and walking around afterward.
Police have not confirmed that the sounds heard by neighbors were gunshots or determined whether they were directly connected to the deaths.
Mother Faces Devastating Discovery
The children’s mother reportedly made the tragic discovery Wednesday afternoon and immediately contacted authorities for help.
A victim advocate has been assigned to assist her as she faces the devastating loss of her children.
The circumstances surrounding her discovery have not been fully released by investigators.
For the family, the investigation is unfolding alongside an unimaginable personal tragedy — the loss of two young children whose lives were only beginning.
Neighbors Remember the Children
People living nearby described the family as generally quiet and said there had been little indication that such a tragedy could unfold inside the home.
One neighbor recalled seeing the children outside and said their presence had simply been part of everyday life in the neighborhood.
Another resident said she had briefly encountered the children’s mother only days before the tragedy.
Those ordinary memories have taken on a painful significance as neighbors come to terms with the deaths.
Police Investigating Possible Murder-Suicide
Cocoa detectives and crime scene investigators spent hours at the residence Wednesday, processing the scene, collecting evidence and speaking with people in the surrounding neighborhood.
Investigators are expected to examine physical evidence, surveillance footage and witness accounts as they work to determine exactly what happened and why.
Police have not released the names or ages of the children.
Authorities also have not publicly confirmed all details surrounding the relationship between Dingwall and the children beyond information emerging as part of the investigation.
No Ongoing Threat to the Public
Despite the disturbing nature of the incident, police said there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the wider community.
“Investigators currently believe this was an isolated incident and there is no active threat to the public,” the Cocoa Police Department said.
The statement has provided some reassurance to residents as investigators continue working at the scene.
A Community Left With Grief and Questions
The tragedy has left more than a crime scene behind. It has left a family grieving, neighbors searching for answers and a community mourning two young lives.
The children should have had years ahead of them filled with birthdays, school days, laughter, friendships and the ordinary moments of growing up.
Instead, their lives ended in a devastating incident that investigators are still trying to understand.
As the investigation continues, neighbors are remembering the children not for the circumstances of their deaths, but for the brief moments when they were simply children playing outside their home.
The Cocoa community now awaits answers while mourning two young lives and a family forever changed by Wednesday’s tragedy.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected as authorities continue to piece together what happened inside the home.
