Woman Arrested in Fatal Shooting of San Francisco Warfield Security Guard
SAN FRANCISCO — A 32-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a security guard outside the Warfield Theatre, where a 47-year-old father of six was killed while working to protect others.
Ulysses Tykee “Bear” Davis, 47, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 3, following an event associated with the Zeus Network reality series “Baddies USA.”
Davis was working security at the downtown San Francisco venue when the shooting occurred.
Security Guard Killed Outside Warfield
San Francisco police responded to the area of the 900 block of Market Street at approximately 1 a.m. after reports of a shooting.
Officers found Davis suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.
According to his family, Davis had been helping remove a disruptive woman from the venue when he was allegedly shot in the back.
His death has devastated his loved ones, who are now mourning a father, husband and friend who went to work that night and never returned home.
32-Year-Old Woman Arrested
On Tuesday, October 6, San Francisco police arrested 32-year-old Shakia Vanderbilt in connection with Davis’ death.
Police said investigators developed probable cause during their investigation and Vanderbilt was taken into custody by members of the department’s Crime Gun Information Center.
She was booked on suspicion of murder under California Penal Code 187(a).
The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office also filed firearm-related charges, including an allegation involving personal use of a firearm, intentionally discharging a firearm in an occupied building and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The charges are allegations, and Vanderbilt remains entitled to due process as the case proceeds through the court system.
Family Says Davis Was Protecting Others
Davis’ family said he was simply doing his job when the deadly confrontation unfolded.
According to relatives, he was attempting to escort a disruptive woman away from the venue when he was shot.
His wife and two of his six children were reportedly present at the theater and witnessed the tragedy.
The circumstances have made the loss particularly painful for the family, who are now left to grieve a man they described as devoted to his loved ones.
Friends and relatives remembered Davis, affectionately known as “Bear,” as someone who cared deeply about others and was always willing to help.
“He was just doing his job,” a friend said, recalling Davis as a man committed to helping and protecting people around him.
Shooting Followed Baddies USA Event
The shooting occurred shortly after an 18-and-over event at the Warfield featuring cast members from “Baddies USA Chapter 3.”
Investigators believe a disturbance that began inside the venue continued outside, according to statements from San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew.
Authorities are examining surveillance footage and other evidence as they work to establish exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting.
Investigators are also working to determine whether Davis was specifically targeted.
Questions Remain About What Happened
Although an arrest has been made, the investigation has not ended.
Detectives continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the confrontation, including what happened inside the venue, how the dispute developed and what led to the fatal shooting.
Authorities have also been looking into circumstances surrounding the event itself, including questions about permits.
Police have not indicated that the arrest marks the conclusion of the investigation.
Remembering a Father of Six
For Davis’ family, the investigation is unfolding against the backdrop of an unbearable loss.
He was a father of six who went to work that night expecting to return home to his loved ones.
Instead, his family is now planning to say goodbye to a man they described as a loving father, husband, relative and friend.
His loved ones say the loss has left a deep void that cannot be easily filled.
Davis’ death has also prompted grief among those who knew him and those who believe he was simply carrying out his responsibilities when his life was cut short.
Investigation Continues
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting while the criminal case against Vanderbilt moves forward.
The allegations against her have not been proven in court.
For Davis’ family, however, the focus remains on remembering the man behind the headlines — a father of six whose life ended while he was working to keep others safe.
The investigation remains ongoing, with additional details expected as authorities continue to gather evidence and the case proceeds through the courts.
